The Atrium Residency
The Atrium Residency is a new creative space located in the heart of The Digital Hub on Thomas Street, generously supported by The Digital Hub. Positioned within one of Dublin’s most historic urban centres, The Atrium provides an important platform for craft, creativity and community engagement.
The Liberties Weavers is a strong and committed community of weavers whose shared passion for weaving has traditionally been rooted in a hobby and community-based context. However, as the organisation has grown, so too has our recognition that we have a meaningful platform—one that can be used not only to nurture participation and learning, but also to actively support weaving and weavers as a professional industry.
In January 2025, staff from The Digital Hub attended one of our WeaveTime workshops. This initial engagement marked the beginning of a deeper collaboration and a shared understanding of the value of weaving as both a cultural practice and a contemporary creative discipline. With the support of The Digital Hub, this relationship evolved into the development of The Atrium Residency.
The purpose of the residency is to provide a dedicated space for professional weavers to develop and sustain their practice, supported by the knowledge, experience and encouragement of The Liberties Weavers community. Located within the historic weaving heartland of The Liberties, the residency bridges past and present—honouring tradition while supporting contemporary textile practice.
The Atrium Residency hosts a space specifically for a graduate weaver, offering them time, visibility and professional support at a critical stage in their career. By embedding the resident within an active community of weavers, the residency fosters mentorship, peer learning and meaningful exchange, while also making the process of weaving visible within a modern, urban setting.
Through The Atrium Residency, The Liberties Weavers and The Digital Hub together support the sustainability of weaving as a living craft, ensuring that new generations of weavers are encouraged, supported and valued within the city that shaped the industry itself.
